so i've been lurking on this subreddit for a while now, and I've noticed whenever it comes to the subject of 'tracking packages', the majority mentions Syntheyes as a recommendation.
I'm still to this day very very confused as to why people choose this over other packages, in my experience it's one of the worst programs i've ever used in my life. From a studio perspective, this program makes a lot of sense to buy. Its the most affordable package, with the most features that can be competitive to other software. From a PERSONAL USE standpoint however, I don't see why this is something people would favor using.
To list a couple of its annoyances (that i can remember):
terminology of its features is inconsistent with regular vocabulary in VFX (ie. survey is SEEDING, auto track is LEECHING/BLIPS (or something like that)
most un-intuitive 3d navigation
2d tracking has very limited features as to what you can do with it
keyframing 2d tracks is very messed up
object tracking can glitch out so many times
lack of camera/object path adjustment features
ugly UI/buttons
Again, this program indeed does have some nice features, but I just don't get why many people recommend this software. Then again excluding boujou there's only PF or 3DE available as choices so maybe that's why. I don't know. Then again the last version I used was 2012, but as soon as I saw that it introduced a 'Voice Command' feature, I knew they were taking this thing to a totally different direction.
So I ask you /r/vfx/, why do you like Syntheyes?
